ACRO YOGA CIRCUS

 Come join the circus! Learn to juggle, hula hoop and do acrobatic yoga! Mime yourself into a box…paint tattoos, and make up your own sideshow fun and circus costume! We will be taking walks and spending quality time indoors and out. This camp will take place in at the IF Center and, weather permitting, we will be clowning around at Friendship Park! Friday prepare to have a showcase for parents and friends.

Get out in the sunshine and walk around or just goof off! We will be making food, playing games, doing yoga, having dance parties and making all kinds of crazy artsy craftsy stuff. Children will be in the care of staff and have options to participate in various activities that will keep them buzzing around the hive. So keep on truckin in aftercamp!
ADVENTURES IN FIBER ARTS

Are you a kinesthetic learner with a passion for plush toys?  Or a budding fashionista? Kiddos of any gender are invited to explore the many applications of fiber art and textile design. We will create unique toys and garments through practice with sewing, weaving and embroidery. We will experiment with textile design using techniques such as screen printing, tie dye, fabric painting and batik.. Try out your fabric inventions with various methods of fabric ornamentation. On the final day of camp, join a fashion show to walk the runway with your own designer toys and wearable art!
ART OF PERFORMANCE: DESIGN. WRITE MOVE.

Art of Performance: Design, Write, and Move. Do you like to perform? Do you enjoy creating with paint, music or dance? Work in both 2D and 3D media while develop storytelling experience. Collaborate on set design, costumes, and storyboards. All week you will be writing, designing and working on camper led performances. On Friday, perform your storytelling experience to guests, campers, friends and parents! *Video of performance will be made available post camp !
DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY & PERFORMANCE

Ages:  12 – 17 TWEENS & TEENS!
Offered: July 24- 28  (9:00 am-12:00 pm)
Create through the expression of dance! Study various choreography techniques while working with other young artists. Each day, dance and train, while you learn how to choreograph a performance piece.  Learn to give and receive constructive feedback. Find great ways to bring your creativity to the forefront while working with others. Then on Friday share your hard work, by leading you own choreographed performance! All participants should bring ear buds and an iPod like device with favorite dance music to the first class, if possible.
MODERN DANCE EXPRESS

Offered: June 19-23 (9:00 am–12:00 pm)  Explore dance improvisation and creative movement as well as more structured techniques such as ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, and hip hop. Lots of movin n groovin, this class is a guaranteed ball! Get psyched for a final performance on Friday!
KIDS IN COSMOS

Expose your mind to  abstract concepts of how the universe works. Boldly go where no kid has gone before. Gain insight and understanding of the cosmos. We will use both science and the arts to cover topics ranging from the origin of space-time to the micro universe of human body. By engaging through experiments and hands on activities, journey into outer space, and back, to find out how the mechanisms of life really works. Come take a trip around the galaxies as you gravitate toward deep learning and understanding of your very being, the world, and the Cosmos
MAPPING TIME

Make a Time Map: the past, future, and present as places. Let’s travel through time into the past the future and then back to the present! Explore places on Earth and beyond, recall some of your favorite personal memories and imagine what your own future might look like.  Try out different techniques including collage, printmaking, watercolor, and drawing with pen and ink to create a mixed media time map of all the places and dreams we explore.  Design symbols and codes to use on your map and add special pockets and doors to hide important messages, discoveries from the past and the future, and surprises for the present. Collaborate with your campmates to create a time capsule full of mini artworks and post cards for our future selves to discover!
MINIATURE PITTSBURGH HOUSE

Make your own Pittsburgh house. We will make models with indoor and outdoor attention to detail. Houses may have electricity and miniature plumbing. Create your own Pittsburgher to live in your hometown. Make mini rooms with furnishings and appliances, then get out the front door! Make a mini garden with real mini plants, fences, and surround it with on street parking, and even save a spot with your little lawn chair! How about a little cat and dog? We will explore different scales and put together our models to make our yinzer neighborhood…won’t you be my neighbor?
MIXED MEDIA MENAGERIE

A perfect adventure with mixed-media: using painting, collage and found objects and a variety of media and technique! Go beyond your kid potential with the playful elements of experimentation to achieve various, spectacular effects! Finally! Display your own artistic one-of-a-kind creations, and invite your friends and family for a final art exhibition and reception at the IFC art gallery!
PAINTING UPWARDS

      Get ready for a surrealist bent! Paint upon paper upon paint upon paper upon paint upon paper!  Bring your imagination to this camp to build up imagery, one painting at a time.  You will experience your to painted images in a whole new way! Come create a project via a collage inspired process, creating a labyrinth to show off your best work!  Get ready to select parts of the paintings to cut out and adhere to other paintings you’ve made. Create a dreamlike world, resulting in an interesting middle ground between two and three dimensions!

Come explore the wonderful world of plants with Miss Ella Campaign.  We will find power with our individual plant allies, investigate the parts of flowers and understand how plant thrive in so many different forms and environments.  We will taste new foods, concoct herbal potions, learn about the traditional uses of plants and intuit the future uses.  We will dress up like plants, we will sing like plants, and we will celebrate plants!  Bring your curiosity and and imagination to our experiments and encounters into the magical world of plants.
PRINT EXPLORERS

Ages: 12 – 17 TWEENS & TEENS!
Offered: July 24- 28 (12:30 – 3:30 pm)  
Wrap your head around various forms of printmaking and bookmaking! Make your mark through printmaking using your multiple prints in collage, bookbinding, and to trade with fellow campers. Explore printmaking—learn to use soft linocuts, collagraph, charcoal rubbings and screen printing! Make a portfolio to collect your awesome work by the end of the week, then, on the last day bind together your multiplicity of prints using Chinese stab binding or a pamphlet stitch for your bound book! Be sure to trade your bounty with your new camp friends!­­
PUPPET MASQUERADE

Offered: June 26- 30  (12:30 – 3:30 pm)Are you a pretender? Do you have an alter ego? Have you ever fancied yourself a Witch or Wizard? Do you sometimes feel like a fairy princess? Or an extra-terrestrial from the constellation Sirius? If so, this may be the camp for you! Come have a blast exploring character archetypes through the creation of costumes and puppets. Use paper mache, card board construction, sewing , painting and more to bring your fantasy characters to life. The camp will culminate into a live action showcase of our creature creations for parents, fellow campers and friends!
SEWING IN STITCHES

Come tickle yourself pink as you laugh and learn how to sew and create with a medley of fabric, paint, montage and materials. Allow yourself to spread your wings, and fly! Or Walk on the wild side, and invent a new kind of animal by repurposing olds things into new ones! Come use your imagination to produce beautiful, layered masterpieces as you have a ball before the the ball!
THE ART OF SACRED GEOMETRY

Be a detective and discover the secret codes of the past, including ancient cultures like the Egyptians, the Andkia Tribe of West Africa, and 5,000 year old Chinese philosophy! We will make symbolic art using geometry, nature and other signs and symbols to decode the world around us. We will search out important means to communicate through symbols as we will draw, sew, paint, print, sculpt and stamp! Join us as in this camp as we are hot on the trail to discovering the secret meanings of ancient civilizations, fighting for freedom and against the iconoclasts!
THIS STRANGE & CURIOUS WORLD

This camp is a process performance: the strange world of change and growth! Use your observation and curiosity as inspiration for a full body performance! Observe and discover processes about change in nature such as the growth of plants, fermented foods, seasons and weather, and the bizarre transformation of bugs through metamorphosis. Work with friends to personify these processes with the help of humor, storytelling, imagination, movement and art making to create a one of a kind performance! Create characters, costumes, a backdrop setting, props and even music and sound to help tell your story and then invite friends and family to come watch the performance!
DIY TECH MAKERSHOP
Teacher: Sheila Ali
Ages: 9 – 12
Offered: June 26- 30 (12:30- 3:30 pm)
Do-it-Yourself Technology is a Maker and STEAM camp. We will use real tools and the nuts and bolts we need to build our dream and real world projects. Make your art roll, spin, light-up, shoot up, expand and float! We will make experiments with vegetable power and solar energy, and recharge our batteries to stay on the go! Use moving water elements to find the path of least resistance. Spend some time paintingg and molding, sculpting and carving, cutting and pasting, stamping and printing. Take apart old toys and reassemble them into something new. Then go figure, learn to create and recreate analogue recordings to make sound art! Parents and friends are invited to a final multi-media exhibition of our workshop ways!
