The Irma Freeman Center for Imagination will be hosting an art exhibit for RePunk 3.
RePunk 3 is a three-day event that works to recall the spirit of the late 70s/early 80s underground/independent music scene in Pittsburgh (punk and postpunk). The events are each happening because they each represent an aspect of what the scene was like back then: dinner at Zarra (because it used to be Electric Banana), art at Irma Freeman (to exhibit poster art, photographs, zines and artifacts), a picnic at Schenley (scene was centered around Squirrel Hill and Oakland; opportunities offered for performers to play and friends to reunite), show at BBT (reuniting original band lineups, showcasing music from that period), brunch and films at Filmmakers (showcasing the musical and filmmaking creativity of the time).
The art exhibit will take place on Friday, July 22 at the Irma Freeman Center for Imagination. It will include a poster display curated by Harriet Stein, photographs curated by Dennis Childers, and zines. Featured performers are Ben Opie and Josh Wulff, and Standing Wave.
