Former IF camper declares new language
“Sick” meaning awesome, cool, totally amazing or “rad” is declared the same thing by my then three-year-old now sixteen-year-old. Has been skate boarding since he was in diapers. This is a true to life attempt to explain the often cryptic language of the cultish skateboarders, but also the means of generations of teenagers to keep adults and parents outside of their world, rendering them oblivious to what’s really going on in the closed mostly brotherhood (cultish wearing hoodies and vans) but now also may include the random girl hooded skater. This separate language was dedicated by a bi-lingual toddler, who spoke both English and “Skateboard language”. Child in picture will remain nameless, as parents know all too well the last thing a teenager wants is his or her parent to bring out the baby pictures!
